GOLD COAST BULLETIN
- AUGUST 2006 |
|
Another reflection
of the high
standard of
clubbing on
the Gold Coast
comes from
The Bedroom.
The venue
has amped
up its already
state-of-the-art
sound system
with some
very new,
very special
DJ equipment.
Just released
on the global
DJ market,
two of the
new Pioneer
CDJ1000 MK3
Pro DJs now
reside in
The Bedroom’s
DJ console
and the guys
at the club
assure us
they are the
only set of
the world-class
CDJs in Australia.
Matched with
that is the
new Pioneer
sampler, the
EFX 1000 MK2
effects unit.
The shiny
new pieces
of professional
DJ equipment
join the club’s
existing Pioneer
1000 digital
mixer and
completely
digital, ‘studio-recording
quality’
sound system.
The international
standard of
sound being
set by The
Bedroom is
a huge plus
for the Gold
Coast –
a small town
which continues
to be recognised
as an important
stop on any
touring DJ’s
itinerary. |

VENUE MAGAZINE JUNE
/ JULY 2006 |
| After
a $3 million
dollar makeover,
what was once
the Ambassee
club in Surfers
Paradise has
reopened as
The Bedroom
Lounge Bar
& Nightclub.
Inspired by
a worldwide
trend for
reclining
in clubs,
The Bedroom
not only has
the expected
bars and dance
floor, it
also has custom
made beds
and each has
their own
plasma screen
and LED champagne
bucket. |
The brainchild
of owner Jamie
Pickering
& owner/manager
Craig Missen,
the venue
has become
Orchid Avenue’s
hottest destination
with the club
packing in
the crowds
night after
night.
On the Friday
evening of
my visit to
the club it
was already
filling at
9pm and doesn’t
shut its doors
until 5am.
The venue
is visually
arresting
due to the
proliferation
of LED lighting
and the stunning
cluster of
red lanterns
suspended
from the ceiling
but the thing
that struck
me the most
was the atmosphere.
The staff
was happy
to be at work
– the
dancing bar
staff, the
jolly, clapping
bouncer (now
there’s
a rarity)
and the scantily
dressed waitresses.
Craig was
quick to point
out that the
bar staff
& waitresses
designed their
own uniforms.
It’s
a fun place
even to an
old girl like
me.
Having just
come from
a very up
market venue
that totally
lacked any
atmosphere,
warmth and,
not surprisingly,
clientele
The Bedroom
was a breath
of fresh air.
Craig himself
came across
as enthusiastic
and positive
about his
project and
this fervor
permeated
through to
his staff.
The vibrant
lighting design
is the work
of Mick James
from Venutech
who really
doesn’t
skimp on the
variety of
lighting equipment
for the venue
and the result
is certainly
a fresh whilst
maintaining
the gentle
atmosphere
of intimacy
that its name
evokes.
The Bedroom
lighting equipment
includes Anolis
LED ArcSource
3RGBs, Acme
iMove 250S
lights, Traxon
MoodLight
64 Tile panels
and MoodLight
Chillers all
exclusively
distributed
by Universal
Lighting and
Audio in Australasia.
Entering The
Bedroom the
impression
of MoodLight
Panels is
immediate;
10 linked
Traxon MoodLight
64 Tile panels
are mounted
into the 16
square metre
dance floor.
Each panel
consists of
64 RGB pixels
which can
be individually
illuminated
to create
detailed and
unique colourful
patterns that
give the venue
ever-changing
mood, accentuating
the dance
music rhythm.
The
MoodLight
panels are
controlled
via ShowMagic
control
console.
“Knowledge
of the programming
is not required
for the
operators,
because
once the
lighting
is programmed
the operation
screens
for everyday
users can
be fully
customised
with large
clearly
labeled
buttons
making for
very simple
operation”,
explained
Luke Hall
from ULA
who programmed
the Moodlight
Panels for
Venutech.
Anolis
LED ArcSource
3 RGBs integrated
to the venue
design illuminate
each bed
separately
from a position
on the wall
above and
MoodLight
Chillers
are placed
on the tables.
Used as
champagne
buckets
these chillers
are made
from durable
aluminium
and plastic
construction
with a semi
transparent
finish,
are water
resistant
and are
rechargeable
delivering
approximately
eight hours
continuous
operation.
Dance
floor lighting
is provided
by eight
Acme iMove
250S moving
head fixtures
situated
on the ceiling
above the
dance floor.
Moving yokes
help to
create additional
ambience
with their
beams of
light, and
in this
installation
balance
the effect
from the
MoodLight
64PXL Tiles
installed
into the
floor.
"We
used Acme
iMove 250S
lights for
this project
as we really
wanted to
have The
Bedroom
as dark
as possible,
so there's
really no
white light,
the combination
of all the
fixtures
really creates
just the
right mood.”
The
audio packs
a powerful
punch for
a relatively
small club
courtesy
of a selection
of Acoustic
Technologies
cabinets:
2 x ATBB05
Double 18"
2800 sub
bass cabinets,

2 x 1"
Constant
Radius Array
760w Cabinets
and 10 x
ATLG09 Dual
8",
1"
Coaxial
horn 850w
Cabinets.
These are
powered
by ATE3500
power amplifiers
and Ecler
digital
amplifiers.
The
DJ has the
usual tools
such as
Technics
1200MKII
turntables,
Pioneer
CDJ1000MKII
CD players
and a Pioneer
DJM1000
Digital
mixer.
So
next time
you visit
the Gold
Coast pop
into The
Bedroom
for a laid
back –
literally
- and fun
night. Personally
I’ve
been reclining
in clubs
for many
years but
that’s
a sordid
story……..

THE GOLD COAST MAGAZINE
- APRIL / MAY 2006 |

Who ever said
that propping
up the bar,
just like
Humphrey Bogart
in Casablanca,
was the coolest
thing anyone
could do in
a nightclub?
If you go
to The Bedroom,
you’ll
find that
while there
are bar stools,
spaces for
dancing, areas
where you
can just hang
around and
chat, and
little corners
for those
intimate moments
with friends,
the real appeal
is the beds.
Yes, this
is a nightclub
where the
preferred
mode of relaxation
is to lie
on a bed with
a drink and
chat to your
friends. Located
at 26 Orchid
Avenue in
the heart
of Surfers
Paradise,
this bar and
nightclub,
where you
can kick on
until 5am
(just so long
as you get
through the
doors before
3am), has
live performances
from overseas
DJ’s,
special nights
when dance
troupes show
off their
style and,
as only a
bedroom can,
a weekly competition
called Bedroom
Vs Beach or,
to put it
another way,
a competition
where beautiful
woman try
to demonstrate
that lingerie
is sexier
than swimwear.
This is a
place where
the ambience
is gentle,
the crowd
friendly end
there’s
a feeling
that everyone
really wants
to have a
good, fun
night. |

they mean

perform live
on Tuesday

PUBS & CLUBS
MAGAZINE - MARCH
2006 |
Sexy,
sultry and
seductive
– that’s
the atmosphere
created at
the recently
opened Bedroom
Lounge Bar
& nightclub
in Surfers
Paradise.
Defiantly
a seating
experience
with a difference,
including
three single
beds, four
double beds
and two king
size beds,
clubbers can
feel free
to lie around
in the relaxed
surroundings,
sometimes
maybe even
forgetting
they are in
a nightclub
– just
remember,
you’re
not in your
own bed……one
could get
carried away
in the moment.
Dimmed lighting
sets the mood
for a great
night and
table service
from waitresses
wearing see-through
negligee’s
give you that
“I really
am in a bedroom”
feeling but
remember,
there are
three simple
rules on the
beds: no smoking,
no pillow
fights and
no jumping
on the beds…..so
anything else
goes?? |

GOLD COAST BULLETIN
- January 2006 |
The
Gold Coasts
newest club
is still causing
a stir with
its new concept.
Taking up
the old Fever
and Ambassee
site, The
Bedroom threw
off its covers
and revealed
itself to
the clubbing
fraternity
just two days
before Christmas.
Since then,
the clean
and fresh
club has been
the buzz of
the town,
offering a
genuine alternative
to the usual
Surfers hotspots.
While the
club tags
itself as
a commercial
club, assistant
manager Charlie
Embley reports
it is on the
funky side
of commercial.
“It’s
a clean, easy-on-the-eye
club where
you can dance
all night
on a great
dance floor
and if you
want to relax,
there are
nice chill
out areas
as well,”
he says.
“A lot
of people
have heard
about the
bed concept
from overseas
or they have
seen it on
Sex in
the City,
but have never
seen it themselves.
Now they can.”
Resident Dj’s
are in control
of the music
programming
for most nights,
while Tuesday
nights are
dedicated
to the ‘very
best in American
R&B, hip
hop and funk’
with Urban
Groove while
Sundays are
all about
the house
party vibe
with special
guest Dj’s.
